Consumer Alert:   IF you get a “Super Low Price or " The deal is only good for today" You will see ads on telephone poles and street corners. Beware of industry "gypsies" who travel with the season from state to state. They remove business cards from public bulletin boards of reputable companies and re use them, but change the contact phone number. You will not know the quality of the product you are receiving and how to reach them if there is a problem. Prices for oil and gas have skyrocketed. As the economy has failed and people have become unemployed there has been a rise in new Seal-coating business’s within CNY. We have experienced a tremendous increase in local competition from new single owner businesses offering “Super Low Price deals” or “One price deals” regardless of the size or condition of your paved area. Every Job is different and so should the price.

References: Please double check them and learn how long they have been in business with in your community, request proof of insurance, and perform an internet or phone book search for their company. These measures will assist the consumer in finding a reputable contractor.

Pricing:  Covers the costs of overhead for advertising, record keeping, employment tax, labor, NYS Workers Compensation, Auto and Business Insurance, fuel, and profit. So who ever furnished that bid at such a Super low price could be cutting corners on the job in order to make any money (and no one is going to work without making money). Sealcoating is considered a maintenance service by NY law and requires tax to be collected.

Materials: Seal-coating materials are emulsions. The word emulsion means suspended in water, thus the seal-coating materials are suspended in water, and form the actual coating on your pavement when they dry. All seal-coating materials come from the manufacturer in a concentrated form, and most need to be diluted per manufactures specifications. Unless you are trained you would never know the difference between a product mixed per manufactures specifications or one that was diluted up to 50% when it was applied to your pavement. It would still look black and you might think you had a seal-coating job and got a deal. When in fact, you had been taken advantage of, and at best would have a product that would track and wear off very quickly. At worst, you could have a product that could damage your pavement.

Application: of the product is very important for a quality looking job
3 types of applications: spray, broom and squeegee. Our Sales Representative will educate & explain what type of application will be the best for your specific pavement conditions. The same type of application is not recommended for all paved areas.

Consumers: You could sealcoat your pavement area yourself, but we recommend you hire a professional Sealcoating Company. The Professional Sealcoat company  will save you time and allow you to keep clean and enjoy a sunny day. Doing it yourself might be cheaper, but you will need the proper tools, time to learn, purchase required materials and schedule your DIY project. Marketing experts recognize the current DIY popularity and have raised the costs of the DIY products versus bulk product therefore narrowing your savings margin for the job.

John Ruskin (1819 - 1900) once said of low bidders: "It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder it is well to add something for the risk you run. And if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better."

The Math: The first thing to do is calculate a rough estimate of the square footage of your paved area. You can do this by measuring the length and width of your paved area. Take those 2 numbers and multiple them to get your SQ FT.
Example: if your pavement area  is 100 ft long by 12 ft wide you have a 1200 SQ FT driveway.

In 1950 Macel Frederick Green formed M Green Mason Repairs in Scottsville NY. His wife, Marion Green and Son RJ Green worked with him to "get the job done" and are seen above installing a blacktop driveway, known then as " coal provia" Grandma wore her work dress and drove the roller.
In 1984, when the first generation retired, RJ Green formed RJ Green Sealing & Striping.
In 2008, RJ Green Retired and his son in law Tim French expanded the business to RJ Green Pavement Sealing & Striping.
Tim French Comes with 25 years of Pavement industry experience.
